The Cambridge City Council passed The Cycling Safety Ordinance in October of 2020. The Ordinance sets ambitious requirements for the installation of 25 miles of separated bike lanes across the entire city within the next five to seven years. This includes the requirement of the installation of separated bike lanes on all of Massachusetts Ave.
Our Goal is to have the City of Cambridge share the roads, keep bike riders safe, without putting local Businesses out of Business. There will be a lot of discussion moving forward to redesign Mass Ave. We have a vibrant community and want to support our residential and business neighbors. The discussion now is how to support people who drive, and need to park to shop & work, residents and their needs for neighborhood parking, as well as bicycle riders and people who walk. We want everyone to enjoy Cambridge and all it has to offer.
We will be working closely with the Porter Square Neighborhood Association, Cambridge Local First, and the Bike Safety Committee as well as the city of Cambridge. We encourage every one to stay active and aware as plans get developed and implemented. We want everyone’s voices to be heard.
If you or your business would be adversely affected by the reduction of parking spots and loading zones, or even the effect of construction while we are recovering from the still lasting effects of the pandemic, Please write the City Council and let them know. Our concerns will not be represented unless we speak up. They need to hear how it will affect our business, and our lives. They need to hear all views. Mailed letters get the most attention, e-mails, and phone calls also help.
Call, e-mail, or write City officials and let them know how the removal of parking spaces would impact your business:
